April at the StL CW

All these great upcoming events will happen at 8617 Mora Ln.

-As he prepares this spring to return to Arizona in support of Apache Stronghold's fight to protect their sacred land, Theo will be hosting an informal discussion on the struggle to save Oak Flat at our March potluck on Sunday the 30th. The potluck starts at 5 with the Oak Flat chat starting around 6 for those interested in participating. Afterwards we'll "pass the hat" to help cover expenses related to his participation in this project. If you can't make the potluck but would either like to learn more about Oak Flat or contribute to Theo's travel costs you can reach out to theodorekayser@yahoo.com or venmo/paypal @TheoKayser. You can read Theo's article about his time at Oak Flat in our newsletter here or see pictures of Apache Stronghold's visit to St. Louis here. And if you're an experienced member of our burrito team we'd extra love to have you help during the 3 weeks in April and May he'll be away!

-Dorothy Day House Church's weekly service will visit the StL CW House April 6th at 4 PM. Soup to follow!

-New Date! so we can support the movement to Stop Cop City as they come to St. Louis April 14th.
Our CW Clarification of Thought book club to discuss Becky Chambers' A Psalm for the Wild-Built will be happening on Monday April 13th at 6 PM. This philosophical sci-fi novella about a monk who encounters the first robot seen by humans in centuries wants us to ask: What do people need?

-Taking to heart Dorothy Day's words "On principle we refuse to pay income tax, because so great a portion goes for wars, preparation for wars (defense, it is termed), and providing other countries with billion of dollars to buy our instruments of war..." we will be organizing a Tax Day action on April 15th at noon. More details TBA. Learn more about war tax resistance from NWTRCC.

- April's potluck will happen on Easter Sunday April 20th at 5 PM rather than on our usual last Sunday of the month. Join us as we celebrate spring, new life, and almost 2 years of building community as the StL Catholic Worker!

We bought a house!

The St. Louis Catholic Worker bought a house! After weeks of delay, we finally got the keys today! The building is big and beautiful, with a good yard for a Catholic Worker garden. It was built in 1904 and has a few imperfections (don't we all) but we'll be able to start moving in immediately as we make higher need repairs. We’ve been overwhelmed by all the love and support that our local support community and the broader Catholic Worker movement has shown us. Thanks to all those who have sent prayers and financial resources our way. Folks have been more generous than we could have imagined and we were able to put down a decent sized down payment. We hope support will continue as we begin having regular monthly bills, mortgage payments, and other expenses related to performing the works of mercy. We have already started collecting gently used household items to furnish the place (we own almost nothing.) You can check out this list of needs and let us know if you have anythin...
